Project Profile: Ixxy's Bagels Ltd

Ixxy's Bagels Ltd

Project Objective:

To convert an existing open plan warehouse into a full specification Bagel and bagel sandwich production facility.

To design the area requirements in terms of space and flow, and to then appoint the design team and contractors to complete the project.

The construction around the oven areas utilised a non-flammable panel to try to eliminate the risk of fire damage to meet with the requirements of the clients' insurers.

The client purchased 2 new rotary ovens and approving tunnel as well as a new assembly line. Foodesco coordinated the supply and services requirements and then supervised the delivery and installation along with the manufacturers engineering team.

Scope of Project:

Foodesco employed the necessary consultants to create the design team. Working closely with the client the layout was designed to fit into an existing new building.

The unit was designed to be able to produce up to 7,500 filled bagels per single shift and the oven capacity was capable of baking in excess of 15,000 bagels in 8 hrs. The primary services and the plant room allowed for the future loads.

The incoming electricity supply was upgraded to 500 KVA with a new substation being built. The existing gas supply was also upgraded and a new meter installed.

A new internal drainage system was installed and connected to the main sewer outside.

A new mezzanine was constructed to house the offices and staff facilities.

The unit was originally designed to allow for the storage and tempering of frozen bagels. However the client changed the design during construction to include a bakery with full mixing and depositing areas.

Foodesco acting as project managers and contract administrators then appointed the contractors chosen for each section of the works and then controlled the whole project.

The factory was handed over to the client on 4th May complete with the new equipment installed and commissioned.

The client then spent 2 weeks training his staff and organising deliveries of raw materials. The first products were delivered ton customers on 18th May. The whole project was completed in 14 weeks.
