James Hall and Co (Spar)

The Project:

Foodesco Ltd were appointed by the overall project manager for a £30m green field site new build for a new distribution depot for James Hall and Co. The site is located just off junction 31 of the M6.

The depot covered an area of 40,000m2 and included ambient, chilled and frozen storage plus production and office facilities.

 

Foodesco were appointed to complete the design of the internal fit out for a 5,000m2 production area for cheese, separate cooked, cured and raw meat areas plus a sandwich production facility.

 
This involved:
  • Assessing the requirements of the equipment layouts and creating areas accordingly.
  • Detailing the services requirements for the equipment in both schedule and drawing formats for the Services Engineers to use. Designed to ensure that the company could achieve BRC accreditation in the future.

  • Designing the specialist wall floor and ceilings along with all of the internal doors, wall protection and surface drainage requirements

In addition to the production areas there were:

  • Chilled areas covering in excess of 5,000 m2 included storage picking and goods receipt and dispatch.

  • Frozen areas covering 3,000 m2 included storage picking and dispatch.

  • Working alongside of the Architects, Structural and Services Engineers, Foodesco ensured that all of the fit out was fully co-ordinated and specific solutions designed for unusual problems.

  • The requirements of the Fire Officer and the companies insurance required careful consideration and the use of specific materials to create Fire Barriers and Partition walls were utilized.
